STEMS Plein Air Paint 2011

After dragging my painting equipment around the Overland Park, Arboretum for two hours, looking for a spot that would translate into a painting, I was about to give up!  Then I heard some familiar voices calling, "hello Jackie"  it was Bill and Carol McCall.  We had painted together at Plein Air Paint Outs before, and they were a welcome sight!  Sometimes it just helps to have someone to bounce ideas around with.
The Arboretum is lovely, but I find a man made garden setting hard to make into an interesting painting.  We walked around awhile and than settled near each other to paint our chosen subjects.  Bill knocked out a huge textured palette knife painting of a tree.  Carol set up almost on the walkway to get a good view, and painted the pond with the two waterfalls. ( I could hear people stopping to talk to her, but I couldn't hear what they were saying?)  I went under a tree to get the view I wanted of a waterfall and to get out of the sun.
Here is a picture of my set -up and painting in progress.

  1. I love the lush colors in your painting. I think you chose a great place to paint.... it looks cool and inviting. I love the photo where you have not only shown your work in but the scene as well.
