Step by Step - Planning a Painting 2
Beginning an architectural painting can make you weak in the knees! First make a few rough sketches to decide the format. Will it fit on my canvas? Don't try the draw every brick and doorknob you see, this will only make you tighten up!
With your left hand (if you are right handed) hold your brush up and match the line of the roof. Keeping your brush in position, bring it straight down to your canvas. With your painting hand, copy the line in a clean, quick stroke, using the brush in your left hand as a guide. ( Use diluted paint for this step.) This is the slow part, but so important. Keep checking lines as you add them, stay calm, check everything twice!
(I don't use a ruler or straight edge because I don't want a mechanical looking painting.)
More to come, stay tuned!
Thanks for sharing your process. This is going to be fun to follow!
